How to Make Flowers Last Longer

July 22, 2014 /Posted byCopper Penny Flowers

Here are a few tips for making your cut flowers last longer…

Hues from blue to violet to magenta. We visit the cool end of the spectrum with blue hydrangea, exotic agapanthus, lavender, corn flowers and stock arranged in a keepsake mint julep cup.

1. Change the water every two days

2. Cut 1/2 inch off the bottom of each stem at a slanted 45 degree angle – this will help them take in more water

3. Sugar helps the blooms last longer by nourishing the stems. Dissolve 3 tablespoons of sugar with 2 tablespoons of white or apple cider vinegar. Do this every time you change the water.

4. And, of course, drop a Copper Penny into the bottom of the vase. The copper helps to deter fungus from growing! Look for pennies minted before 1982 – they contain more copper than newer pennies!
